About Octavio Fuentes

Most people look at you funny when you tell them you left a career as a travel photographer to write books, but honestly, it makes perfect sense to me. After two decades of capturing stories through a lens – everything from Oaxacan cooking traditions to hidden jazz clubs in Havana – I realized the stories I wanted to tell needed more than just images.

These days, I bounce between Mexico City and Madrid, though my best writing happens in noisy cafés in Roma Norte where the baristas know my order by heart (café de olla, extra canela).
